"When Stanley Yelnats is sent to Camp Green Lake detention centre for a crime he did not commit, life becomes much more of a challenge. First of all he has to dig a hole a day - as deep as a man - in the baking Texas heat, looking for who knows what. Then he has to avoid the cruel Mr Sir and the menacing warden. Will Stanley survive in this hostile environment? This is a wonderful, heartwarming, funny and life-affirming novel that is both genuinely original and brilliantly written."
My review:
Holes is a great book. It is about a boy called Stanley Yelnats who is always in the wrong place at the wrong time. This time he got caught holding Clyde Livingston's shoes. Now he has to choose between Camp Green Lake or jail, but is Camp Green Lake the place he thought it would be?
My favourite passage is when Miss Katherine Barlow has heaps of problems. So Sam the onion boy keeps saying "I can fix that" but then they kiss because Miss Katherine doesn't have anymore problems so she's upset that she won't see him anymore.
I would recommend this book for Year 5 and up, and give it a rating of 5/5 because it has heaps of drama!
