'With a crack as though her back was breaking, the dory lurched downwards. Christos felt himself twist, then fall inexorably towards the head of the inquisitive shark.' For his birthday, Christos takes his father's dory on his first solo trip. He plans to fish and then camp overnight on a local island. But things go terribly, terrifyingly wrong when Christos runs the dory aground on a reef, attracting a four-metre tiger shark as company for the most harrowing night of his life - a night during which he decides what he is willing to die for.... My review: This book is a truly amazing experience as it takes you through the most frightening night of your life. While trying to stay out of the tiger shark's way, Christos also has to try and uproot the dory from the reef while trying not to die. The drama and action made me really want to read on to find out what happened and the author put a lot of detail into the action in the story. I liked the way the plot kept me hooked that whole way through (no fishing pun intended? Ms. Hill :)) and the way the author showed me what Christos was thinking as well as doing physically. It was a heart-beating, head-thumping, thrill-ride experience of a book! Unless you are a fishing and/or a reading addict, I would recommend this to the age of 12 and up because of the massive use of fishing and boating words, e.g. "I could slide through, belly against the hull, down past the motor, under the kill pit and the icebox and pop up into the standing pit". Overall, it's an amazing, adventure packed story. I rate it 9/10. Cya next time x0x0 Rhianna <3 Charlotte's Web by E.B White Charlotte's Web is about a girl called Fern who falls in love with a pig called Wilbur and raises him like he's her own baby. Then Wilbur meets a spider called Charlotte A Cavatica and then before you know it, Wilbur is an award-winning-spider web writing PIG!!!!!!!! My favourite passage is the start when Fern is so in love with the pig that she argues with her DAD! Because she doesn't want him to kill the pig just because it's small - I like how she says "If I were small would you have killed me?". It's true. I would recommend this book for year 3 and up and I would rate it 5/5 because I love animals. Tess [: Blurb: It's Valentines Day and Splat has a very special card for a certain someone in his class. Her name is Kitten and Splat likes her even more than fish fingers and ice-cream. But she doesn't like him at all. And there's Splat's rival, Spike, who also likes Kitten. Will Splat's heartfelt card win Kittens paw in the end? Review: It's a really cute book. It's got sad bits but it's also got good bits. That's what makes it so cute. It is very easy to read and I recommend it not just to younger kids but to older kids and even adults. It's fast and touching and altogether a really ADORABLE book!! I rate it 10/10 C ya next time x0x0 Rhianna <3 Shadow "This dog is not like other dogs. She is more like a friend than a dog, a friendly shadow that does not want to leave us. You never lose your shadow." Never have Aman and his mother needed a friend more than when a Springer Spaniel appears in the mouth of their Afghan cave. Nursed back to health by Aman, the dog becomes more than a companion, a shadow, and thats what Aman decides to call her. But life in Afghanistan becomes more dangerous by the moment. Eventually, Aman, his mother and Shadow find the courage to leave. But how far can Shadow lead them? And in this terrifying new world, is anywhere really safe ...? My Thoughts: I knew from the 1st time I read this, that it would be my favourite book. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry. It makes me feel guilty about what we have but take for granted. I think we need more books like Shadow in the world and more dogs like her too! I rate it 10/10 and I recommend it age 10+ See ya next time Rhianna x0x All About this book! This book is a sweet tale of Lucy and her boy - Squeakers. When Lucy is skipping along a forest path, she encounters a little boy. She decides to keep him. She named him Squeakers. They were inseparable, But Lucy is a bear, and Squeakers is a little boy. How will it work out? My Review! This is a hilarious story of Lucy's fortunate and UNfortunate day. I loved this book. It's sweet and has a kind ending. This is for anyone that can read. This is rated 9/10 and 5 out of 5 stars! Ginnie Princess Emerelda kisses a frog prince called Eadric but it all goes terribly wrong and Emerelda (Emma) also turns into a frog. Now Emma and Eadric have to go and find the witch who cast the spell. They face many challenges on the way. My favourite part was when they had to escape from a horrible witch called Vannabe (var-na-be) otherwise they'll get thier tounges and toes cut off! It was a really interesting and funny book and I couldn't put it down. I would recommend it to ages 7-14 years. I rate it 10/10!!!!!! Alice B. About the book: Some of you may be thinking, "I don't know , what is the trouble with sauce?" Others may think they know the answer, for instance, "Do you know haw many calories are in that thing" or "If it drips it leaves a big, red stain. But seriously, that's not really thinking outside the box. You see it all starts off with a boy called Jonty. Jonty thinks hes attending a regular school, but he can't figure out why all his classmates are turning into well behaved, brilliant students. When the perfect school turns into a perfect nightmare, no one is safe form the worlds cleverest students. With two unlikely friends, Jonty sets about exposing the principal's dastardly plan ... but will they just become part of his evil scheme too? Review: I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! It is an action packed, humorous, saucy (get it!!) book. It keeps you hooked in 100% of the time. I recommend it age 9+ and I rate it 10/10 C ya next time, Rhianna x0x0 X) Blurb- Being a kid can really stink. And no one knows this better than Greg Heffley, who finds himself thrust into high school, where undersized weaklings share the hallways with kids who are taller, meaner, and already shaving. Luckily Greg has his best friend and sidekick, Rowley. But when Rowley's popularity starts to rise, it kicks off a chain of events that will test their friendship in hilarious fashion. Review- I LOVE THIS BOOK!! Its very funny, easy to read and oringnal. I love the pictures, they make it easier to imagine what's happening and makes more fun to read. I like how there's not really a story line, it's just a cruisy book about Greg's life and how things don't go well for him. My favourite part is the first sentance. "First of all, let me get something straight: This is a JOURNAL , not a diary." Because it hooks me in straight away. I would recommend this book for yr5-yr9 and this book is for boys and girls too. I rate this book 5/5 Emma.C :) |
