(This is set in 1872) Violet has taken part in her mother's fake seances since she was nine. (A seance means a group of people contacting the dead). Violet hates it. Her mother drags her along to Rosefield (the estate of a Lord) to take part in the biggest seances yet. Violet doesn't believe in ghosts but they believe in her. When Violet is confronted with the mute ghost of a drowned girl, she knows it's no accident she died. She drowned because she was murdered. Violet needs to find the girl's murderer and not get caught faking the seances.
My Favourite Passage was...
"I stood and took his offered arm even though what I really wanted to do was march over to the recalcitrant ghost and shove salt up her nose."
&
"The dead girl sopping on the carpet ignored me".
And I personally connected to this part because if a ghost wanted me to solve their murder I would feel angry if they ignored me. And shoving salt up there nose would be fun. (Hmmmm??. Ms. Hill)
My favourite part was when Violet and Elizabeth (Violet's best friend) were sneaking around and they nearly got caught so they hid in a room where Elizabeth's crush was sleeping. I liked how the author described how the characters reacted.
Three things I liked about the book:
1.) The way the author described the feeling of the characters.
2.) The way the author described the people and how they acted.
3.) How the author used humore to make it seem realistic.
Ratings & Recomendations: this book is a 'romance mixed with mystery' novel. This is definitely for Senior Students - 12+. This is one of my favourite books and I rate it 9/10.
